The New York Chapter ACHCA is pleased to name Clari C. Gilbert as the
recipient of its prestigious Administrator of the Year award for 2009.

Clari C. Gilbert is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating officer of
Beth Abraham Family of Health Services, with its corporate offices in the Bronx,
New York.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Long Island
University and a Master of Arts in Nursing Administration from New York
University.  She is also a licensed nursing home administrator with the
operational responsibility for approximately 1200 nursing home beds, 1500
home care clients and 7 adult day care centers.

Clari has implemented “Person Centered Care” at Center for Nursing &
Rehabilitation, a 320-bed nursing home, which is receiving statewide
recognition and attracting many visitors and colleagues.  The other three
Nursing Homes within the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services have all
started on the Culture Change journey. She was recognized by New York
Association for Homes and Services for Aging (NYASHA) in 2007 as the
Professional of the Year for her contributions to long-term care.

Clari believes in the growth and development of staff at all levels and has
obtained about $750,000 in grants from the New York State Department of
Health for retraining and upgrading.  So far, 13 Certified Nurses Aides were
trained to be mentors at CNR and staff at Beth Abraham Nursing Home are
now being trained to become Licensed Practical and Registered Nurses. An
onsite (CNR) program supports 17 employees currently pursuing their Masters
    degree from Hofstra University.

She is the co-author of a chapter in the Journal of Social Work in Long-Term
Care (2003) titled “Culture Change in an Urban Environment.”  She has also
presented at workshops and seminars on topics including: “CNAS: Working in
a Culture Change Environment”, “Governance in Culture Change”, “The Path
to Change”. She was selected to the 2008 Baldrige Board of Examiners, a
quality program under the National institute for Science and Technology.

We congratulate Clari on her accomplishments and being selected as this
years recipient of the Administrator of the Year Award.
